A Theatre by the Saryu: UP adds a New Cultural Stop for Deepotsav visitors

Ayodhya, Nov 5 (UNI) An open-air theatre by the Saryu is adding a new cultural stop for travellers heading to Ayodhya for Deepotsav on November 7.
Developed with a stage and audience seating at Ram Ki Paidi, it gives Uttar Pradesh's signature festival venue a space for cultural programmes that can serve visitors throughout the year.
The completed facilities form part of the Tourism Department's approximately ₹23.68 crore Phase 2 project under the Shri Ayodhya Ji Teerth Vikas Parishad. Visitor galleries and a selfie point are already drawing tourists as preparations continue to illuminate the Deepotsav venue with around 30 lakh diyas.
UP Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said the development would bring cultural activities and visitor amenities together at the riverfront.
"The open-air theatre, stage and audience gallery will provide a better setting for cultural programmes. These facilities will remain useful to pilgrims and tourists visiting Ayodhya throughout the year," Singh said.
An ornamental entrance and mural wall add to the precinct's visual appeal, while the selfie point offers visitors a place to capture memories of their trip. Six stone chhatris and six stone lamps form part of the development, alongside stone pillars, planters and latticework.
Landscaped areas, directional signs, inscription panels and lighting complete the improvements, giving visitors more to explore within the riverfront setting.
Amrit Abhijat, Additional Chief Secretary and Director General, Tourism, said the project was intended to strengthen visitors' connection with the destination.
"The objective is to connect visitors with Ayodhya's spiritual heritage, cultural traditions and the natural beauty of the Saryu. The theatre and audience gallery will give cultural activities a new platform, while the developed precinct will help visitors experience the city's distinctive identity," he said.
