Action taken not only against police but also RCB officials

Bengaluru, June 6 (UNI) Karnataka Minister HK Patil on Friday emphasised that the government has taken strict action not only against police officials but also against other stakeholders responsible for the stampede at the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) event that led to 11 deaths.
“Who says we have solely blamed the police? We have directed legal action, including arrests, against the RCB officials. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) must take immediate and strict action. The event management company DNA and others involved must also face prompt investigation and arrests,” Patil told reporters.
The remark comes in the wake of public protests against the state government for suspending top police officials in the stampede case.
He referred to the formation of a single-member commission, headed by Justice Michael Cunha to conduct a thorough and transparent inquiry into the incident. “This is a fair and transparent process. We have held all responsible parties accountable and handed the matter over to the judiciary,” Patil added.
Responding to a question, Pail stated that it is for the judiciary to determine if proper procedures were followed. He also noted that similar incidents have occurred in cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, but expressed surprise that such a tragedy occurred in Bengaluru, where such events have been rare.
“As ministers, now that the judicial inquiry has commenced, we will refrain from commenting or speculating on the matter,” he said. UNI BDN SSP
