Afghanistan break into top six of ODI rankings, overtake Sri Lanka

New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) Afghanistan have reached a new high in the ICC men’s ODI team rankings, moving up to sixth place after overtaking Sri Lanka.
Since making their ODI debut in 2009, Afghanistan have steadily established themselves as a competitive side in international cricket. Their rise has included memorable wins over Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the 2023 ODI World Cup and a maiden appearance in the semifinals of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Afghanistan have won 96 of their 191 ODIs, maintaining a win-loss ratio of 1.09. They had already moved ahead of established teams such as Bangladesh, England and the West Indies in the rankings before breaking into the top six.
Their latest rise has been backed by a strong run of results. Afghanistan swept Ireland 4-0 in an away ODI series and went unbeaten in the recently concluded tri-series involving Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
They also completed a clean sweep of Zimbabwe in the T20I series and will now turn their attention to the longest format, with a two-Test series against the same opponents coming up.UNI TB AAB
