AICC gen-secy, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra publicly support agitating ASHA workers of Kerala

Malappuram, June 15 (UNI) AICC general secretary and Wayanad MP, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, said on Sunday the agitating Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers of Kerala are protesting for their basic rights.
While addressing a corner meeting at Moothedam near Nilambur, as part of election campaign for the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Aryadan Showkath, Ms Gandhi said, "I know the plight of ASHA workers in Kerala. They are proud, brave women who performed heroic services for the community during the Covid -19 pandemic. Yet today, they are protesting for their basic rights."
She also said, "ASHA workers have been available 24/7 and respond to calls at any time. If they are asking for a reasonable raise in their honorarium after years of service-and a retirement amount at least Rs five lakh what is wrong with that. It is their right."
A section of ASHA workers of Kerala have been protesting since February 10, demanding a hike in their honorarium from Rs 7,000 to Rs 21,000 and a post-retirement benefit of Rs five lakh.
Few of its leaders also arrived in Nilambur for an election campaign to UDF candidate Aryadan Showkath, to protest against the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF). The CPI(M) led LDF had ignored their strike and alleged that ASHA workers' agitation is being driven by those pursuing an anti-governmental political agenda including by SUCI, Jamaat-e-Islami, SDPI and others.
