Alleging harassment by lenders and police, Maha builder ends life

Mumbai July 2 (UNI) A 64-year-old builder from Nalasopara in Palghar district of Maharashtra was found dead at his residence, police said today, adding he left behind a note in which he accused moneylenders and two police constables of mentally harassing him over a loan.
According to officials of Achole police station, the builder, whose name has not been disclosed, hanged himself at his home.
The body was discovered by his daughter on Tuesday morning, who immediately alerted the authorities.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the builder had borrowed Rs 32 lakh from a private moneylender. Over the past few months, his family said he appeared increasingly anxious and distressed.
His daughter told police that two constables had been visiting their home frequently, pressuring her father to repay the loan. The deceased allegedly claimed that the harassment had reached such an extent that the accused threatened to take over the building project he was currently working on and transfer the contract to another developer.
Police said that the suicide note recovered from the scene names the two constables accused of abetting the harassment.
Senior Police Inspector Sujeet Kumar Pawar of Achole police station confirmed that an Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered and that the matter is under active investigation
