Madurai, June 8 (UNI) On a two-day visit to this temple town, Union Home Minister
Amit Shah offered prayers at the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple here on Sunday.
He was received at the temple entrance with the traditional 'Poorna Kumbham' honours
by the temple authorities.
Mr Amit Shah spent about 30 minutes at the temple and had darshan at various
sannidhis.
Tight security arrangements were made in all the four entry points of the temple.
Devotees were allowed entry only through three entry points after thorough check.
The Eastern Tower entrance was made out of bounds for public.
Mr Amit Shah, who landed here last night, was believed to have held a preliminary
meeting with the State BJP leaders.
After visiting the temple, the master BJP poll strategist, who was keen on expanding
the AIADMK-led NDA in Tamil Nadu by roping in more parties to take on the ruling DMK
in the upcoming Assembly elections in 2026, also chaired a meeting of the state core
committee of the Tamil Nadu BJP to discuss the road map and devise strategies for
the polls.
All top senior leaders including State President Nainar Nagendran, who is also the BJP
Legislature Party leader, former Chiefs K Annamalai, Ms Tamilisai Soundararajan, MLAs
including Ms Vanathi Srinivasan, BJP TN General Secretary Rama Sreenivasan,
National Governing Council members including H Raja, BJP Central observers and
TN in-charge members, took part in the meeting.
"In the evening, will interact with state, district, and mandal-level office bearers of the
BJP", Mr Amit Shah said.
He was also expected to address the party workers and galvanise the BJP cadres to
begin their poll preparatory works--as the elections are less than 10 months away--in
close coordination with the allies to ensure NDA's victory next year.
