Anil Vij questions Opposition’s anti-SC march, alleges conspiracy to destabilise nation

Ambala, Oct 15 (UNI) Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij on Thursday questioned the political motives behind the opposition’s joint protest against the Supreme Court, alleging that certain forces could be working to destabilise the country.
Reacting to the participation of several opposition parties in a demonstration called by CJP on October 10, Vij questioned how the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and Left parties had come together under the banner of an organisation who has no established political credentials.
"Who is bringing all these parties together? Who is the force behind them? The people of this country must find out who is orchestrating this mobilisation," Vij told reporters.
Alleging that the opposition’s collective mobilisation raised serious questions, the minister claimed that forces seeking instability could be operating behind the scenes. However, he did not identify any such forces or provide evidence to substantiate the allegation.
"CJP gives a call for a protest in Delhi. Rahul Gandhi comes with his party workers, Akhilesh Yadav brings his supporters, Mamata Banerjee's party joins in, and the Communists also arrive. Who exactly is CJP? Is it a political party or a social organisation? What is its background?" he asked.
Vij alleged that the unusual convergence pointed towards the possible involvement of forces operating beyond the visible political leadership.
"It appears that some other force is bringing them together. There are forces that want to create instability in the country, and these parties are acting as their tools," he charged.
The minister, however, did not identify the alleged forces or provide evidence linking them to the protest.
Vij termed the opposition’s march against the Supreme Court an unfortunate development, asserting that the independence and impartiality of the judiciary must be respected.
“Our courts are completely impartial. This is the first time in independent India that we have seen a procession against the Supreme Court,” he claimed.
While acknowledging that protests were a democratic right, Vij questioned the participation of multiple political parties in a demonstration organised at CJP’s call.
He also raised the possibility of contempt of court, saying the Supreme Court had taken cognisance of the matter and that any further action would be for the judiciary to decide.
“The Supreme Court has itself taken cognisance. What action follows is entirely for the court to decide,” he said.
"Protesting is a democratic right. We have also protested in the past. But when all these parties come together at the call of an organisation with no known political history, the question naturally arises: who is behind them?" he said.
Vij also suggested that the demonstration could amount to contempt of court, while emphasising that any decision on legal action rested with the judiciary.
"The Supreme Court has itself taken cognisance. What action follows is entirely for the court to decide," he said.
Turning his attention to Punjab, Vij mounted a strong attack on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's government over the death of an anti-drug activist, questioning why state enforcement agencies had allegedly failed to act against drug trafficking despite information available at the local level.
"If a social activist knew which shop was selling drugs, why did the government not know? If the government was aware, why was no action taken?" Vij asked.
He said the incident raised questions about the functioning and accountability of agencies entrusted with combating the narcotics trade.
"An activist lost his life. Only after that did the authorities wake up. Where were the government's agencies all this time? Why did they not act before?" he questioned.
Vij demanded an explanation from the Punjab government over what he described as its failure to prevent the illegal drug trade despite warning signs.
The minister also criticised Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala for his remarks that the country's middle class is bearing the brunt of inflation.
Taking a swipe at the Congress leader, Vij questioned what he described as an attempt to divide citizens into economic categories.
"What kind of weighing scale does Surjewala have that he keeps dividing the country into different classes? Sometimes he talks about the lower class, sometimes the middle class, while he himself belongs to the upper class," Vij remarked.
He said all citizens should be viewed equally rather than categorised for political purposes.UNI KK AAB
