Ankushita Boro, Zareen storm into semifinals

Hyderabad, Jun 29 (UNI) Former Youth World Champion Ankushita Boro and reigning two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen cruised into the semifinals of the ongoing Elite Women’s Boxing Tournament at the Saroornagar Indoor Stadium today.
Boro, representing the TOPS Talent squad, outclassed Rajasthan’s Parthvi with a convincing 5:0 verdict in the 65kg quarterfinals, displaying superior ring craft and sharp counters.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad’s own Nikhat Zareen thrilled the home crowd with an equally dominant 5:0 performance against Kalpana in the 51kg category.
The tournament, hosted by the Telangana Boxing Federation with support from the Boxing Federation of India and the Sports Authority of Telangana, features top national contenders and rising stars from 15 units. These include the top 12 finishers from the recent Elite Nationals, host state Telangana, the SAI NCOE Combined team, and the TOPS Talent & Development unit.
Other key results from Day 2 saw a slew of boxers seal semifinal spots with clean sweeps. Preeti (54kg), Jyoti (51kg), and Devika Ghorpade (51kg) all advanced with unanimous 5:0 wins. Tamil Nadu’s V. Lakshaya (51kg) made her mark by defeating Laxmi Devi with a clear decision, while Tanu (54kg), Shashi (65kg), and Yashi Sharma (65kg) moved ahead after solid displays.
In the 70kg category, Gitimoni Gogoi—also from the TOPS contingent—registered an RSC (Referee Stopped Contest) win, and in the 57kg class, Babirojsana Chanu forced a stoppage in the second round to enter the semis in style.
This Elite Women’s Boxing Tournament acts as a crucial selection trial for the upcoming national camp in Patiala and plays a vital role in shaping India’s international squad.
The semifinals are set to take place on June 30. UNI BDN SSP
