Anvay Dravid, Aaryavir Sehwag named in India U19 Asia Cup squad

New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) Karnataka’s Anvay Dravid and Delhi’s Aaryavir Sehwag, sons of former India cricketers Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag respectively, have been named in India’s squad for the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Muscat, Oman, from November 5 to 14.
Both batters impressed in the recently concluded Vinoo Mankad Trophy, earning selection for the continental tournament. The 17-year-old Anvay smashed 151 off just 100 balls as Karnataka chased down a target of over 300 against Gujarat earlier this month.
He had also made an impression on the international stage, scoring 87 off 67 balls against Sri Lanka in a Youth ODI at Hambantota in July. Anvay is also India’s first-choice wicketkeeper.
Aaryavir, 19, was equally impressive in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, hitting 173 off 143 balls against Chandigarh at Vizianagaram.
Lakshya Raichandani will lead the Indian side, with Yashbardhan Chauhan named vice-captain. India have been placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Nepal and the UAE, while Group B comprises Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Malaysia. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
India head into the tournament after a strong run of results in recent youth cricket assignments. They swept Australia Under-19s 2-0 in the four-day series and 3-0 in the one-day series in September and October. Before that, India beat Sri Lanka Under-19s 1-0 in a two-match four-day series but lost the one-day series 2-1.
Raichandani was the standout batter in the four-day matches against Australia, scoring 250 runs in three innings, including a commanding 240 in the first game. Chauhan led the batting charts in the one-day series, making 176 runs in two innings, including a century in the second match.
Sehwag, a top-order batter, scored 28, 47 and 34 in the one-day series against Australia. Anvay, meanwhile, made 38 and 9 in the two one-day matches he played against Australia, having signed off from the one-day leg of the Sri Lanka tour with his 87 off 67 balls.
India will look to carry their recent form into the Asia Cup as they aim to progress through the group stage and reach the knockout rounds. India will start their group stage against Nepal on November 6 before facing Pakistan and UAE, on November 8 and November 10, respectively.
