AP: Akhanda Godavari project will help tourism in a big way: Tourism Minister

Vijayawada, June 6 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Tourism Kandula Durgesh has asserted that the Akhanda Godavari project will help to make the region an attractive tourism hub.
In a statement here on Friday, the Tourism Minister said that Deputy Chief Minister
K Pawan Kalyan and MP D Purandeswari would lay the foundation stone for the Akhanda Godavari tourist project on June 19.

Tourism Minister Durgesh asserted tourism development works would be carried out in Rajahmundry, Dhavaleswaram, Kadiyam, Kovvur, Nidadavolu and other areas in the region for Rs 97 crore, sanctioned through the SASC-2024-25 (Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment) scheme by the Centre.

Minister Durgesh revealed that all tourism project works would be completed by the Godavari Pushkarams. He hoped that the areas around Godavari would acquire new splendor and that visitors would be provided with better facilities. He said it would be a good experience to showcase their historical and cultural traditions.

“The historic Havelock Bridge, which has a history of 127 years and stands as a symbol of heritage, will be modernized. The Havelock Bridge area will be developed with waterfalls, glass bridges, a gaming zone, a space theme, an urban hot craft bazaar, hanging gardens, a hologram zoo, time travel, a rail museum, and aquarium tunnels,” he explained.

The Minister highlighted that Pushkar Ghat, located next to Havelock Bridge, would further be developed into a spiritual destination, adding that it is aimed to connect both Havelock Bridge and Pushkar Ghat and develop it into a dynamic tourist destination.

Minister Durgesh stated that it has been decided to develop the surrounding temples with architectural and design aesthetics so that holy baths can be taken throughout the year at the Pushkarala Revu, so that spirituality can be felt and even more spirituality can be enhanced.

The Tourism Minister explained that it is aimed to bring tourist charm to Kadiyam Nursery, one of the largest nurseries in India, and restore the former glory of the nearby Godavari Canal and other historical and cultural places. The tourists around the Godavari River would be able to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and take a boat ride on the canal.

“As part of the Akhanda Godavari Project, the Sri Kota Sattemma Temple, which is a famous and glorious spiritual pilgrimage site in Thimmarajupalem, Nidadavolu Mandal, East Godavari District, with its unique historical background, impressive ramparts, impressive main gate, and tall Rajagopuram, will be further beautified. Additional pilgrim accommodation will be set up,” he highlighted, adding that the Rajagopuram of the temple will be modernized, he acknowledged.
