AP Guv presents awards to district collectors

Vijayawada, May 8 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer and president of Indian Red Cross Society, AP State Branch, participated in the World Red Cross Day and International Thalassemia Day programme held at Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan here on Thursday.
The Governor presented Red Cross awards and medals to district collectors P Prasanthi, (East Godavari) DK Balaji ( Krishna), O Anand, (SPSR Nellore) G Rajakumari (Nandyal), Sagili Shan Mohan, (Kakinada) P Ranjit Basha (Kurnool), C Naga Rani (West Godavari) and J Venkata Murali (Bapatla) for their outstanding services and mobilising maximum contributions towards the cause of Red Cross movement and congratulated the medal winners.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Abdul Nazeer said that Red Cross AP State Branch was operating 20 blood centres, collecting more than 65,000 blood units every year and issuing more than one lakh units of blood to needy people, out of which one third is supplied free to the poor patients.
Earlier, the Governor inaugurated the Red Cross Thalassemia Blood Transfusion Centre at Srikakulam District Red Cross Blood Centre, in virtual mode, from Raj Bhavan.
He congratulated the officials of State Branch and Srikakulam District Branch, for their initiative to support children and individuals in need of crucial blood transfusion treatment and directed the State Branch officials to expand the blood transfusion services at all Blood Centres where component facility is available.
The Governor also unveiled a plaque of Red Cross Child Care, Women Welfare & Skill Development Centre, established at Kakinada.
