AP: National SARAS Mela records Rs. 3.71 crore sales

Vijayawada, Oct 20 (UNI) The National SARAS Mela 2026, being organised here from October 13 to 31, by the Ministry of Rural Development, GoI, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (APSRLM/SERP), continues to attract an encouraging response from the public, despite heavy rainfall at the venue.

“The Mela has recorded cumulative sales of Rs 3.73 crore, covering approximately 1.51 lakh products made and marketed by women members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from across the country. These figures reflect the growing popularity of SHG products and the increasing recognition of rural women entrepreneurs in wider markets,” the organizers said here today.

On 19 October, the National SARAS Mela recorded sales worth Rs 88.89 lakh, with 32,080 products sold. Despite heavy rainfall at Punnami Ghat, the Mela attracted more than 50,000 visitors. The adverse weather slightly affected sales; however, the impressive footfall and substantial sales reflected the continued enthusiasm of visitors and strong public interest in products crafted by rural women entrepreneurs.

Dr. P. Krishnaiah, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), visited the stalls at the National SARAS Mela 2026 and interacted with the women members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). He appreciated their entrepreneurial skills, creativity, and commitment to developing women-led enterprises, and encouraged them to further strengthen their businesses and expand their market opportunities

The National SARAS Mela provides a valuable marketing platform for rural women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products directly to consumers. The Mela brings together producers, artisans, consumers, and other stakeholders, enabling SHG members to expand their market reach, understand consumer preferences, establish business connections, and explore new opportunities for enterprise development.

By creating opportunities for women to market their products at the national level, the Mela helps strengthen their income-generating activities, supports traditional skills and craftsmanship, and promotes sustainable rural livelihoods. With the Mela continuing until 31 October, participating SHG members and rural entrepreneurs will have further opportunities to connect with consumers, increase sales, and build stronger market linkages.
