AP: TDP MLC slams Oppn YSRCP Chief Jagan Reddy

Vijayawada, Oct 20 (UNI) Telugu Desam party MLC Bhumireddy Ram Gopal Reddy on Tuesday strongly condemned what he termed as "the ongoing political theatrics" of YSRCP president Jagan Mohan Reddy over the conduct of the local body elections.
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, Ram Gopal Reddy emphasized that Minister Nara Lokesh has given clear and strict instructions to the party cadre and the police. “Even if the TDP loses a few seats, there will be absolutely no room for violence or forced unanimous elections. The police have been given a free hand to maintain law and order, ensuring that citizens can cast their votes without fear, bringing true grassroots democracy back to the state,” the TDP leader said.
The local body elections are designed to decentralize power and empower citizens at the grassroots level, but the previous YSRCP regime turned them into a violent mockery of the democratic process, he maintained.
The TDP leader recalled that during the YSRCP's tenure, forced unanimous elections were orchestrated through sheer terror, and reminded the public of the brutal realities the TDP cadre faced, noting that 322 false cases were filed against them just for participating in the democratic process.
He reminisced that in previous elections, YSRCP goons attacked 160 opposition workers, kidnapped 48 individuals, and destroyed properties across 118 different locations to prevent anyone from filing nominations.
Out of 85 gram panchayats in former Chief Minister Jagan Reddy’s Pulivendula constituency, the YSRCP previously used threats and police machinery to swing the votes in its favour.
“Today, the tables have turned. The local YSRCP leadership spent hundreds of crores on party workers but left their bills unpaid, leading to a massive internal revolt. Now, their own cadre refuse to step up, leaving the party struggling to find candidates for the current polls,” the TDP MLC claimed.
Faced with this massive rejection on nomination days like the 16th and 18th of this month, the YSRCP leaders resorted to creating chaos, he alleged.
