APF to support 2.5L girls with scholarships

Bengaluru, May 15 (UNI) The Azim Premji Foundation (APF) on Thursday announced the launch of the Azim Premji Scholarship, a major initiative aimed at supporting up to 2.5 lakh girl students pursuing higher education across 18 states in the academic year 2025-26.
The scholarship will be open to girls who have completed their Class 10 and 12 education in government schools and secured admission in recognised higher education institutions, government or select private colleges, offering degree or diploma programmes.
The Foundation will provide Rs 30,000 per year to each eligible student for the duration of her course, with the amount disbursed in two instalments annually to the student's bank account. The funds may be used for any educational or related expenses, according to the Foundation.
A girl enrolled in a four-year B.Sc. Nursing programme, for instance, would receive Rs 1.2 lakh over the duration of her studies.
Calling higher education a transformative force, Anurag Behar, CEO of Azim Premji Foundation, said, "Despite the all-round progress India has made, girls continue to confront differential societal and financial hurdles at all levels of education. "We are making a significant commitment to support girls to pursue higher education, which will help them gain greater control over their life’s trajectory," he said.
The programme was piloted in 2024-25 in Madhya Pradesh and select districts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand, benefiting over 25,000 girls. The scholarship funds for the pilot cycle have already been transferred to the selected recipients.
Applications for the 2025-26 cycle will open in September 2025, and the programme will initially cover the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
The Foundation stated that details, including the final list of eligible institutions and any design changes, will be released closer to the application window. The programme may be expanded to a national scale in future cycles.
