Arunachal Assembly marks one year of Speaker, Dy Speaker’s tenure with interaction programme

Itanagar, June 16 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Monday celebrated the completion of one year in office by Speaker Tesam Pongte and Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor with a special interaction programme held here.
The programme at the DK Auditorium brought together officers and staff of the Assembly to reflect on the achievements of the past year and to reaffirm their collective commitment to upholding the dignity and values of the democratic institution.
In his address, Speaker Tesam Pongte expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Assembly staff for their dedication and contribution in ensuring the smooth functioning of legislative sessions and official events.
Highlighting the importance of teamwork, he stated, “From bottom to top, everyone should uphold their responsibilities,” and urged all members to serve with discipline, sincerity, and respect, describing the Assembly as the “temple of democracy.”
Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, in his remarks, emphasised the significance of discipline, commitment, and continuous learning. He encouraged staff to value every role within the Assembly and remain open to learning from all, including juniors. “Each member contributes to maintaining the dignity and smooth functioning of this esteemed institution,” he said.
Assembly Secretary Tadar Meena, in her welcome address, congratulated the Speaker and Deputy Speaker on completing one year in office. She expressed confidence that under their leadership, the Assembly staff would continue to strive for excellence and take pride in serving in such a prestigious institution.
The programme concluded with a renewed sense of unity, dedication, and shared responsibility among all attendees, reinforcing the Assembly’s ongoing journey of legislative service and institutional growth. UNI TD SSP

Boatman drowns in Meghalaya

Shillong, June 16 (UNI) In a tragic incident, a 42-year-old boatman drowned at the Umngot river on the edge of the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya today after falling from the boat.The deceased, identified as Amilson Surong, fell from the boat while ferrying tourists on the Umngot River in Dawki under the West Jaintia Hills district.Village Defence Party (VDP) Dawki President, Kelvinel Khonglah said Surong was out on a routine boat ride with three female tourists when he suddenly experienced a seizure, lost control and fell into the river.The boatman's body was retrieved from the murky water after several hours of search and rescue operation launched by the police, fire & emergency services and local villagers.
