Arunachal CM inaugurates integrated sanitary complex-cum-cafeteria in West Kameng

Itanagar, June 30 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today inaugurated the Integrated Sanitary Complex-cum-Cafeteria in West Kameng district, marking a major step toward improving public amenities for tourists and travelers along the key Bomdila-Dirang-Tawang (BCT) road.
As part of the initiative led by the West Kameng District Administration, six such complexes have been established at strategic locations—Nechiphu Tunnel, Bomdila Pass, Munna Camp, Shergaon, Balemu, and Sela Tunnel. These sites lie along the vital BCT and Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tawang (OKSRT) roads, which connect to Tawang—the most visited tourist destination in Arunachal Pradesh.
Despite the high volume of visitors, the nearly 200-250km hilly stretch between Bomdila and Tawang has long lacked basic infrastructure, making the 8-10 hour journey challenging for travelers.
The newly inaugurated complexes aim to address this challenge by offering clean and safe sanitation facilities, refreshment areas serving local cuisine, and designated parking spaces—enhancing the overall travel experience while promoting local food culture.
Each facility has been entrusted to local unemployed youth under a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), creating employment opportunities and supporting grassroots economic development.
This innovative and inclusive project is the brainchild of West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Akriti Sagar, and has been implemented with financial support from the Untied Fund. The initiative is expected to significantly boost tourism in both West Kameng and Tawang districts.
Chief Minister Khandu praised the initiative as a model worth replicating across the state, applauding the vision, community participation, and youth engagement that made the project a success.
