Arunachal grapples with floods & landslides; one more death reported, several missing

Itanagar, June 1 (UNI) The hilly Northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh continues to reel under the impact of relentless rainfall, with flash floods and landslides disrupting normal life across multiple districts.
The extreme weather has claimed one more life, while several individuals remain missing, and many others need rescue.
As per officials at the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) of the Disaster Management Department, a tragic incident occurred on Saturday when one Guptajit Bharali was swept away while attempting to cross the flooded Sukha Nallah in the Upper Digaru area of Lohit district.
His body was recovered on Sunday at Lasa Pani.
This marks the first flood-related fatality of the season and brings the overall death toll to 10, following last Friday's devastating landslides that killed seven people, including two pregnant women and four children, in East Kameng district, and claimed two more lives in Ziro Valley, Lower Subansiri district.
Meanwhile, a man from Dispur, Assam, was reported missing at Parshuram Kund in Lohit district on Saturday. Similarly, in neighbouring Anjaw district, another male individual has been missing since May 30, with search operations underway.
In Kamle district, a man sustained injuries due to a landslide in Pamluk village, and is currently receiving medical attention.
Amid these distressing developments, rescue efforts have been intensified. In a swift and courageous Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission, the Indian Air Force (IAF) rescued 14 individuals stranded due to flash floods in the Bomjir river area of Lower Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh.
"14 individuals stranded in the middle of the flooded Bomjir river in the Lower Dibang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh, cut off from the mainland, were safely rescued to a safe location," Guwahati-based Defence PRO Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said in a statement.
The operation, launched early this morning, was in response to an urgent request from the state administrations of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The operation was undertaken by an Mi-17 helicopter, the Defence PRO said.
On Saturday, four individuals stranded due to floods in Jalukbari village, Lohit district, were also safely rescued, according to the SEOC officials.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have urged residents to stay alert and avoid flood-prone areas. Relief and rescue teams, including the IAF and SDRF, remain on standby across vulnerable regions, they added.
