Arvind limited sets up Rs 150-cr textile unit in Varanasi, to create 1,000 jobs

Lucknow, Nov 5 (UNI) Ahmedabad-based Arvind Limited has set up a Rs 150-crore textile manufacturing facility in Varanasi, with the potential to generate around 1,000 jobs, including significant employment opportunities for women.
The facility, located at Khochwan in Mirzamurad area of Varanasi, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 25. Spread across approximately six acres, the unit will manufacture sportswear and innerwear for several leading multinational brands.
More than 300 women have already been recruited and are undergoing training at the facility, according to an official statement.
The project has been facilitated by Invest UP, the state's investment promotion agency, which provided end-to-end support and coordinated with the investor, district administration and various government departments to expedite statutory clearances and approvals.
The project demonstrates how Uttar Pradesh is translating investment commitments into on-ground industrial activity through responsive governance, simplified processes and time-bound investor support.
The Varanasi district administration also extended support in resolving land-related issues and securing necessary permissions, including land exchange, permission under Section 80 and the groundwater no-objection certificate (NOC).
Through coordinated efforts, major approvals, NOCs and registrations were facilitated within approximately two to three weeks, the statement said.
These included Consent to Establish and Consent to Operate from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, Fire NOC, Groundwater NOC, Section 80 permission, factory registration through the Labour Department and building map approval from the District Panchayat, Varanasi.
Invest UP played a pivotal role in facilitating the project by providing end-to-end investor support and acting as a single-point coordination agency. It worked closely with the investor, Varanasi district administration and mutiple departmental authorities to streamline statutory procedures, resolve bottlenecks and expedite the processing of applications and approvals.
The investment is expected to strengthen Varanasi's position in the textile and garment manufacturing sector while generating employment and increasing women's participation in the workforce.
The project reflects Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to Ease of Doing Business through coordinated, responsive, and investor-centric governance. Such investments are strengthening manufacturing, generating employment, boosting women's workforce participation and reinforcing the state's position as a competitive investment destination on its journey towards a trillion-dollar economy.
