Basavatarakam Indo American cancer hospital kicks off Silver Jubilee celebrations

Hyderabad, June 22 (UNI) The Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI) formally launched its Silver Jubilee celebrations on Sunday, marking 25 years of dedicated service in cancer care.

The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha, who lauded the hospital’s contributions and expressed confidence in its continued success.

The celebrations began with the unveiling of a commemorative pylon by Nandamuri Balakrishna, Chairman of BIACH&RI, who credited the hospital’s growth to the support of numerous donors and well-wishers.

He acknowledged the contributions of late Dr Polavarapu Tulasi Devi, late Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, N Chandrababu Naidu, and the Tata Sorabji Trust in shaping the hospital’s journey.

Balakrishna emphasised that BIACH&RI, which started in 2000 with 110 beds, now has over 700 beds and is moving towards establishing a 1,000-bed facility in Andhra Pradesh.

As part of the inaugural event, the Governor inaugurated a state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator, a radiotherapy machine being introduced for the first time in India, while the Health Minister launched a modern Cath Lab for cardiac diagnostics and treatment.

The dignitaries paid floral tributes to the statues of the hospital’s inspiration—Late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and Late Smt. Basavatarakam—and later participated in the formal inaugural function held in the hospital auditorium.

Speaking on the occasion,
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma praised Balakrishna as a “hero with a mission” and noted the hospital’s alignment with the national vision of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, and Jai Anusandhan”. He urged more institutions to emulate BIACH&RI’s model and suggested that the government consider employing persons with disabilities, inspired by what he witnessed during his visit.

Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha commended the hospital’s service to cancer patients and announced the establishment of four new regional cancer care centers and cancer wards in every district hospital across Telangana. He expressed hope that BIACH&RI will continue its legacy of excellence.

Balakrishna reiterated the hospital's non-profit mission, stating that treatment is provided to all patients without bias. He expressed gratitude to the Congress government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for their support and thanked the doctors and staff for elevating the hospital to national prominence

The event concluded with cultural programs, prize distributions, and reflections from Sri Bharat Matukumilli, who announced that the Trust Board will review the hospital’s 25-year journey and plan for its future goals.

The celebrations were attended by trust board members including JSR Prasad, Dr. Raghavarao Polavarapu, Dr Nori Dattatreya, Smt. Nara Brahmani, senior doctors, hospital staff, students, patients, and their families.
