Birsa Munda an icon, a symbol of indomitable courage: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar, June 9 (UNI) Revolutionary leader Birsa Munda is considered an icon and a symbol of indomitable courage and admirable zeal in fighting against caste and slavery, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said.
Birsa Munda was also the main force behind the movement against the establishment of British rule, Majhi said while paying floral tribute to the great martyr on his 125th death anniversary.
Born on November 15, 1875, Birsa Munda began working to organize the Mundas to free them from the slavery of British rule. At that time, the Jagirdars, Zamindars, and Shukhadars were oppressing the Mundas and other tribes, exploiting and intimidating them in various ways.
At such a critical juncture, the great revolutionary and freedom fighter Birsa Munda emerged and led the community, inspiring them to fight against the injustice and oppression of British rule.
Birsa Munda was martyred at the young age of just 25, along with thousands of fighters for the country. Majhi said, “We Indians are proud that such a brilliant and brave son was born in our motherland.”
Odisha Assembly Speaker Surma Padhi, Deputy Speaker Bhavanishankar Bhoi, and several party MLAs also paid their respects at the statue of the martyrs in front of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
