BJD to highlight BJP government’s alleged failures during month-long padayatra

Bhubaneswar, Oct 1 (UNI) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will launch a month-long Jana Samparka Padayatra across Odisha from October 2 to November 2 to reach out to people at the grassroots and highlight what the party describes as the failures of the BJP government and the achievements of the previous BJD regime.
Senior BJD vice-president and former minister Debi Prasad Mishra said, as in previous years, the party would undertake the Jana Samparka Padayatra from Gandhi Jayanti, with party leaders and workers reaching out to people across the state.
He said the campaign would focus on various public issues and the alleged failure of the BJP government to fulfil promises made during the elections.
Mishra alleged that the BJP had made several commitments to the people before coming to power but had failed to deliver on them during the last 27 months. He claimed that farmers, youth, students, women, tribals, Dalits, minorities and other sections of society had been affected by the government’s policies.
He also alleged that the Centre had undermined the federal structure through the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026, and curtailed Odisha’s economic rights. The BJD has been demanding repeal of the amended mining law and has raised objections to its provisions concerning the rights of mineral-rich states.
Mishra claimed that there was considerable resentment among people against the BJP government and said the BJD would take the alleged failures of the government directly to the people during the month-long campaign.
The padayatra will be organised at the headquarters of all 34 BJD organisational districts as well as in blocks, municipalities, NACs and municipal corporations across the state. Party workers will also undertake door-to-door outreach as part of the programme.
Former minister Ashok Kumar Panda said the padayatra would be used to make people aware of what the party described as the shortcomings of the BJP government.
Panda alleged that the state government had failed to adequately address issues relating to paddy procurement mandis, agriculture, allowances and pensions. He said the promises made by the BJP during the elections had, according to the BJD, turned into disappointment during the last 27 months.
Referring to issues such as errors in textbooks, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the MMDR Amendment Act, Panda said the BJD would place before the people what it described as the government’s failures in different sectors.
BJD MLA Anant Narayan Jena said the month-long Jana Samparka Padayatra would bring before the people what the party described as the “real face” of the BJP government.
Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das alleged that the failures of the BJP government were no longer hidden from the people and expressed concern over the safety of women amid what she described as rising atrocities against them.
BJD president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the Jana Samparka Padayatra in Bhubaneswar on October 2 and join the march in Ward No. 52, marking the launch of the statewide programme.
The BJD said the month-long campaign would focus on taking public grievances and issues to every household across Odisha and strengthening its grassroots-level contact with the people.
