Caught RSS by the neck in Nagpur: Hariprasad

Bengaluru, Oct 31 (UNI) Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President BK Hariprasad on Saturday turned the Congress victory in Nagpur into a broader political challenge to the RSS and BJP, declaring that the party had "caught by the neck" an organisation spreading hatred and would carry the fight across the country.
Invoking Nagpur, the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Hariprasad said the outcome there carried a political message beyond the city.
"Nagpur means Havanapura in Kannada. We have caught by the neck an organisation that spreads the poison of hatred in the country. What began there will send a message that we will defeat them across the country," he told reporters.
His remarks sought to project the Nagpur outcome as a larger political statement against the RSS, while positioning the Congress campaign as a nationwide contest over the country's political and ideological direction.
The immediate trigger was Congress candidate Abhijit Wanjari retaining the Nagpur Graduates' constituency, defeating BJP's Sudhakar Kohale by 3,271 votes. Nagpur is home to the RSS headquarters.
Hariprasad also rejected the BJP's claim of having defeated Congress in the wider MLC elections, citing electoral setbacks for the BJP in several constituencies. His remarks came amid a wider political exchange between the two parties over the election results.
The KPCC chief's comments put the spotlight on Nagpur as a symbolic political battleground, with Congress seeking to give the local victory a wider national resonance.
