Centre scales up metro push; Gurugram corridor

Panchkula, July 21 (UNI) The centre has stepped up investments in urban mass transit, with about 1,159 km of metro rail and regional rapid transit system (RRTS) networks now operational across 26 cities, while 30 metro projects are at various stages of implementation, including the 28.5-km Gurugram Metro corridor in Haryana.
According to a reply in the Rajya Sabha, the Millennium City Centre-Cyber City Metro project, with a spur to the Dwarka expressway, is under implementation and has achieved 3.3 per cent physical progress as of June 2026.
The project is among the latest additions to India's expanding metro network and is expected to improve public transport connectivity in Gurugram by encouraging commuters to shift from private vehicles to mass transit. According to the ministry, metro expansion helps reduce traffic congestion and vehicular emissions while improving travel reliability and contributing to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

13,900 students compete in Panchkula reasoning championship, 96 reach district finals

Panchkula, Oct 8 (UNI) As many as 13,900 schoolchildren participated in a 45-day competition aimed at strengthening logical reasoning, mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills, with 96 students qualifying for the district-level Puzzle and Pattern Championship 2026 held here on Thursday.
Organised under the Nipun Panchkula Mission, the competition covered school, cluster and block-level rounds before culminating in the district finale at Chitkara International School, Sector 28.
