Centuries by openers Athish, Madhava puts TN in command against ROI in CK Nayudu Trophy

Chennai, Oct 2 (UNI) Sparkling centuries by openers SR Athish and Madhava Prasad and their massive 250-run stand, put hosts and
title holders Tamil Nadu in command scoring 368 for one against Rest of India on the second day of the CK.Nayudu Trophy cricket tournament at the Chepauk stadium here on Friday.
After the ROI made batting look tough by falling to guiles of spinner Sachin Rathi who bagged six wickets and folded up for 179, the home batters feasted on a hot day with the pitch looking benign .
The ROI bowlers toiled hard without any success for a major part of the day as Athish (137, 203 balls, 19x4 , 3x6) and Madhava Prasad (150 not out, 302 balls, 20x4) grinded the attack that looked pedestrian.
Resuming at 45 for no loss, the druo stretched their first wicket stand to 250 in 66.1 overs before Athish fell. But Kiran Karthikeyan rubbed further salt into the wounds of ROI with an unbeaten 56 in 98 balls with eight fours, adding another 118 runs for the unbroken second wicket.
With a cushion of 189-run lead, Tamil Nadu would like to further consolidate the position to reach an unassailable position by stretching the lead on the morrow.
