Clarke, Crawford set All-English final at SMK Open

Bengaluru, Apr 5 (UNI) Top two seeds Jay Clarke and Oliver Crawford lived up to their billing as they progressed to the final of the SM Krishna Memorial Open at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium here on Saturday.
Clarke, the top seed, made light work of India's Chirag Duhan in the first semifinal, cruising to a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Clarke seized control of the match early, breaking Duhan in the fifth game of the first set.
Despite Duhan's efforts to recover, including a brief fightback to 40-15 in the fifth game, Clarke capitalised on his opponent's errors and broke again in the ninth game to seal the first set.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with Clarke breaking Duhan's serve in the fourth game and maintaining his advantage throughout. Although Duhan took a medical timeout and rallied briefly to make it 3-4, Clarke remained resolute and wrapped up the match in 89 minutes.
The final will be an all-English affair, as Clarke will face second-seed Oliver Crawford, who defeated Ryuki Matsuda in the second semifinal.
Matsuda started strong, saving five break points in the fourth game and breaking Crawford's serve to lead 3-2 in the first set. However, Crawford responded by breaking back in the eighth game and winning the set 6-4 after Matsuda faltered on serve.
The second set saw both players matching each other stroke for stroke, but Crawford's powerful serves proved decisive. He broke Matsuda in the 10th game to claim the second set 6-4, booking his place in the final.
In doubles action, the American-Kazakh pairing of Nick Chappell and Grigoriy Lomakin claimed the doubles crown, defeating India's S D Prajwal Dev and Nitin Kumar Sinha in straight sets. Chappell and Lomakin dominated from the outset, breaking serve in the first game to establish an early 5-2 lead. They wrapped up the first set 6-3.
In the second set, the Indian duo fought back, forcing a tie-breaker after both sides held serve. However, the American-Kazakh pair triumphed in the tie-breaker, winning 7-5, to claim the doubles title.
The tournament continues to showcase intense competition, with Clarke and Crawford set to battle for the top honours in the singles final.
