Close shave for Mumbai's Kedarnath pilgrims as heli makes emergency landing in Tehri

Prithviraj Singh
Dehradun, Oct 24 (UNI) Six Kedarnath-bound pilgrims had a close shave on Saturday morning as the helicopter they boarded had to make an emergency landing owing to sudden technical snag.
The six travellers included five Mumbai-based Kedarnath pilgrims and the pilot of the helicopter.
A helicopter belonging to Trans Bharat Heli company operating in Uttarakhand had to make an emergency landing midway at Baurari area in Tehri for the safety of the five Mumbai-based Kedarnath pilgrims as the flying machine developed a serious technical snag.
The pilgrims were travelling from Dehradun to Kedarnath.
According to Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) officials, the pilot had realised that the heli was unable to complete the sortie to Kedarnath due to some serious problem.
This forced the pilot to land at Baurari Stadium.
Officials said that emergency landing of the Trans Bharat helicopter was made at the Baurari Stadium in New Tehri on Saturday early morning.
According to information shared by the officials, the helicopter had taken flight from Sahastradhara in Dehradun to Kedarnath Dham via Guptkashi.
After landing at Baurari, the helicopter remained parked at Baurari Stadium for some time.
Following this, the helicopter flew back from Baurari to Sahastradhara in Dehradun.
Officials added that the safety of the pilgrims was the primary concern for the pilot and the UCADA management.
Although neither UCADA nor the air service provider firm released any statement on the actual cause of the heli disorder and other details related to the incident, officials claimed that it was a serious issue that disabled the helicopter from continuing with the sortie to Kedarnath.
