At a ceremony held in Moscow to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Gennady Mikhailovich Pechnikov, a Soviet theater actor known as 'Russian Ram', Russian artists and intellectuals praised the development of Ayodhya and the organization of the Ramlila.
The artists said that just as Ayodhya shines on Diwali, they want to present a glimpse of Indian culture in Moscow through the play of Lord Ram.
The event also featured discussions about Ramlila by Indian and Russian artists.
Speakers recalled the ideals of Lord Ram, the concept of Ramrajya, and Pechnikov's contribution to strengthening India-Russia cultural ties.
At the event in Moscow, Alla Leonidovna, director of the Children's Theatre, praised the development work undertaken in Ayodhya under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh. She said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has improved Ayodhya through Ramlila and other development works.
Now, Russia too is getting the opportunity to understand the concept of Ramrajya through the play of Lord Ram. She said that Ramlila is not just a religious event, but also a medium to convey the life and ideals of Lord Ram to the people.
Tatyana Pechnikov, daughter of "Russian Ram" Gennady Mikhailovich Pechnikov, recalled her father's contributions, saying that he reshaped the friendship between India and Russia through acting.
By playing the role of Lord Ram, he introduced Russian society to Indian culture and traditions.
Referring to the changes in Uttar Pradesh, Tatyana said that Ayodhya's glory has increased since Yogi Adityanath became Chief Minister. She said that her father's acting played an important role in strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
Bitaly Evgenievich Dashinsky, Vice-Chancellor of the Ershov Theatre Institute in Moscow, said that Gennady Mikhailovich Pechnikov introduced the people of Russia to Lord Ram and the concept of Ram Rajya. Through his acting, he brought the ideals of Lord Ram to Russian society. His contributions were not limited to theatre; he also strengthened the cultural ties between India and Russia.
Today, on his 100th birth anniversary, artists from both countries and members of the Indian community are remembering him.
Alexandra Koneva, Rector of the Ershov Theatre Institute, Moscow, said that Lord Ram's life teaches us how to live. His ideals still guide society. She added that presenting Lord Ram's life and character through theatre is an important means of introducing the new generation to his ideas.
Dr. Rameshwar Singh, producer and director of the Ramlila to be held in Moscow, said that Gennady Mikhailovich Pechnikov was a renowned actor of Soviet theatre.
By playing the role of Lord Ram, he contributed to popularizing Indian culture and the tradition of the Ramayana in Russia. For this reason, he is known as the "Russian Ram."
