Committed SHOs key to Telangana Police retaining top spot: DGP Dr Jitender

Hyderabad, June 28 (UNI) Telangana Director General of Police Dr Jitender, on Saturday emphasised the critical role of Station House Officers (SHOs) in maintaining the state's reputation for effective policing.

Addressing a state-level meeting of SHOs held at the DGP Office in Hyderabad, he said that committed, transparent, and people-centric policing at the grassroots level is essential for sustaining Telangana Police's top ranking in the country.
Dr Jitender underlined that SHOs form the backbone of the police system and their dedication, integrity, and sensitivity towards public needs are vital for maintaining law and order. He noted that the state government is fully supporting the police force with the necessary infrastructure and resources to ensure public safety and improve the quality of policing across the state.
He called on SHOs to align policing practices with the expectations of the public, stressing that building trust and public confidence is only possible through consistent, transparent, and fair policing.
He urged officers to promote staff awareness, ensure timely and accurate registration of FIRs, take strict legal action against offenders, and improve the conviction rate, which serves as a powerful deterrent to criminal activity.
The DGP also highlighted the importance of public satisfaction as a performance metric, referencing initiatives such as QR code-based feedback systems that help track citizen responses to police services. He urged SHOs to strive for 100 per cent satisfaction in their respective jurisdictions.
Referring to the success of recent systemic reforms, he pointed to the transition to a cashless system in traffic enforcement, which has significantly reduced corruption allegations. He reiterated that such reforms should be extended to other areas of policing as well.
Dr. Jitender also mentioned Telangana’s recognition in the India Justice Report and the accolades from the Ministry of Home Affairs for the state's top-performing police stations. He said these awards reflect the department’s collective efforts and should continue to be a shared goal through discipline and dedication.
Additional DGP (Law & Order) Mahesh M Bhagwat warned SHOs to be vigilant against the sale of spurious seeds, especially during the ongoing agricultural season.
He advised strict enforcement and, if needed, the invocation of the Preventive Detention (PD) Act to curb such crimes and protect farmers’ livelihoods.
The meeting was also attended by AIG (Law & Order) Ramana Kumar, DSP Sri Satyanarayana, and other senior officials, a statement from the DGP office said.
