Cong govt says 70 pc Bengaluru rain issues resolved

Bengaluru, May 19 (UNI) Karnataka Urban Development Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday asserted that the government has already resolved 70 percent of Bengaluru's rain-affected problem areas, despite ongoing challenges posed by the city’s unplanned infrastructure.
Speaking after a review meeting with BBMP officials, Shivakumar assured swift and decisive action to tackle the remaining issues.
"Heavy rain is a natural phenomenon, and I welcome the rains. Since assuming charge as Bengaluru city minister, we identified over 210 critical problem areas. Out of these, around 162 places have been attended to, while 42 locations still require intervention. Of these, 20 are currently being worked on, and 24 are planned for action shortly," he told reporters.
Reiterating the government's commitment to addressing the grievances of Bengaluru residents, Shivakumar said the entire team, including the BDA chairman, is actively working on the ground. Chief Minister Siddaraaiah is scheduled to visit some of the affected areas day after tomorrow. "Although the CM planned to visit today, heavy rains and traffic forced us to postpone to avoid inconveniencing the public," he added.
Highlighting the scale of the task ahead, Shivakumar said, "There are about 123 major problem areas that still demand urgent attention, and firm decisions are being taken to resolve them."
Taking a dig at the opposition, the minister remarked, "The opposition should reflect on what they accomplished during their tenure. Meanwhile, I want to emphasise that we have already resolved 70 percent of Bengaluru's issues."
Acknowledging Bengaluru’s challenges as an unplanned city, Shivakumar said the government remains committed to delivering results. "We had a review meeting today and finalised a detailed action plan. I will personally visit some affected locations today and others soon," he added. UNI BDN SSP
