Congress alleges Rs 3,000 Cr corruption in Ghodbunder-Bhayandar Tunnel and Elevated Road Project

New Delhi/Mumbai, May 31 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Harshavardhan Sapkal on Saturday levelled a serious allegation against Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, claiming that "they accepted a Rs 3,000 crore bribe" in the Ghodbunder-Bhayandar Tunnel and Elevated Road Project.
The Supreme Court has delivered a major blow to the BJP-led government in Maharashtra over the Ghodbunder-Bhayandar tunnel and elevated road project. Following the court’s observations, the state government has been forced to cancel the tender. Massive irregularities and corruption involving crores of rupees have surfaced in this project, he said.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Sapkal stated that another bidder’s tender was cancelled on technical grounds in this project.
He questioned, “Who owns Megha Infrastructure, the company awarded the tender? What are the secrets behind this deal?” Now that MMRDA has cancelled the tender, the issue does not end here—this is a matter of deep-rooted corruption, he said.
He alleged that Fadnavis and Shinde had created a "corruption corridor" in the state involving agencies like MMRDA, MHADA, CIDCO, and SRA. This network has been operational since Shinde became Chief Minister. Their loyal officers are appointed to key positions, and their favoured contractors are awarded lucrative projects, he charged.
Sapkal emphasised that this is not limited to a single project. The Samruddhi Highway, Pune Ring Road, Virar-Alibaug Corridor, and now the Shaktipeeth Highway—all have become breeding grounds for corruption.
He alleged a vicious cycle where political power is used to amass wealth, and that wealth is then used to retain power. Projects in Thane and the Mumbai region are a part of this massive scam. He also claimed that the infamous “50 khoke, All Ok” bribe slogan and money used for election tamashas have roots in such corruption.
With administrators appointed by the state government in charge of major municipal corporations like Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Mira-Bhayandar, and Navi Mumbai, Sapkal claimed that this system is being exploited to run a massive scam worth Rs 1 lakh crore. He demanded a judicial inquiry into all such infrastructure projects.
