Court award life sentence to man accused of minor rape

Mumbai, May 2 (UNI) A designated court here on Friday sentenced a 45-year-old man to life imprisonment for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in 2022.
While convicting the accused for life, the court in its order held that the accused was a ‘habitual offender’ and has five other cases pending against him for similar offences of child sexual abuse; hence, he deserves to be in jail for life till his last breath in prison.
According to the prosecution, the victim was a minor girl and was studying in a school in class 1 on April 26, 2022, when the victim was playing with her friend outside her house in a slum area located in the Mumbai suburb. The accused had taken her to an isolated spot and sexually assaulted her. He also threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident before leaving. After he left, the girl came out on the main road and found two women near a school. She asked them to call her mother.
The caller said that her daughter was found abandoned. On reaching there, the victim’s mother found her daughter and lodged a complaint.
The police, based on CCTV footage and the description of the accused, arrested the man.
During the trial the court considered evidence, including medical reports and testimonies, including that of a witness who had seen the accused with the girl before the incident, before sentencing the man to life imprisonment.
