Court award one year RI to peon of civic body in bribe case

Mumbai, May 2 (UNI) A session court in neighbouring Thane city on Friday awarded one year of rigorous imprisonment to a peon of the civic body Thane Municipal Corporation in connection with a bribery case in 2016.
According to the prosecution case, poen Rajesh Yashwant Jadhav was posted in the water supply department of TMC and was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for accepting a bribe of Rs five thousand in connection with the early connection of the water supply at the residence of the complainant.
After the arrest, his case was tried in the session court, which delivered its final verdict today.
Additional Sessions Judge Thane District S.S. Shinde, while convicting Jadhav to one year of imprisonment for the offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, also imposed a fine of Rs 1000; in default of paying the fine, he will face one month of simple imprisonment.
