CPI (M) to launch statewide campaign in Odisha in November

Bhubaneswar, Oct 28 (UNI) The CPI (M) will launch a statewide campaign in Odisha in November, followed by block-level demonstrations and civil disobedience movements, demanding farmers’ compensation, protection of tribal rights and Odisha’s territorial interests, and electoral reforms.
The campaign will demand adequate compensation for farmers hit by Cyclone Arnab and other natural disasters, protection of Odisha’s territorial rights in Kotia, an end to alleged repression of protesters in Sijimali, repeal of the MMDR (Amendment) Act and cancellation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The party will also seek relief and rehabilitation for disaster-affected people, protection of land, forests, water and livelihoods in tribal areas, and measures to address unemployment, rising prices and concerns relating to education and healthcare.
On electoral reforms, the party will demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and pursue joint movements with INDIA bloc constituents and Left parties against the SIR exercise. It will also campaign against the amended mining law, which it says undermines Odisha’s interests and rights over mineral resources.
The party has asked district committees to prepare campaign schedules based on local conditions. Public meetings and demonstrations will be organised to mobilise people around these demands.
The decisions were taken at a State Secretariat meeting held at the party office in Bhubaneswar under the chairmanship of senior leader Ali Kishore Patnaik. State secretary Suresh Chandra Panigrahi and other senior leaders attended the meeting.
