Crest gate at Jurala project failed to open due to cable damage

Mahabubnagar, Jun 26 (UNI) One of the crest gates at the Priyadarshini Jurala Project reported operational issues due to damage of cable here on Thursday, even as Krishna river inflows touched 53,000 cusecs following the heavy rains in the catchment area.
Out of the 62 crest gates, crest gate no.9 failed to open after its two rope cables were damaged, according to officials here.
A technical team was rushed to the site to rectify the issue.
Meanwhile, main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) alleged that the breaking of the rope at gate No.9 in the Jurala Project is a clear indication of the negligence of the ruling Congress government.
On Social media platform ‘X’, BRS working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) said the Jurala project is in danger today because Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is unable to ever manage the project.
The Revanth government's apathy in carrying out maintenance work at the spillway is clearly visible, despite knowing that floods occur every year, he said.
The CM and its Ministers should at least give up their slumber for now, as the flood waters in Jurala are gradually increasing, said KTR.
Already, due to this government’s incompetence, the SLBC tunnel collapsed near Domalapenta Village in Nagarkurnool District, claiming eight lives, he pointed out.
Now, the rope at Jurala Gate No 9 has broken and the ropes at other gates are weak, putting the project at risk, KTR tweeted.
The government should immediately alert the people of the downstream areas and take precautionary measures by constantly assessing the increasing inflow from upstream, he said.
Precautions should be taken to ensure that the Jurala project does not suffer any damage, he added.
