Cyber-Enabled Cognitive Warfare seminar concludes in New Delhi, stresses coordinated response to emerging threats

New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) A two-day seminar on Cyber-Enabled Cognitive Warfare, organised by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) under the aegis of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), concluded here on Tuesday, with senior military leadership emphasising the need for a coordinated, multi-domain approach to counter emerging threats to national security.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, delivered a special address at the concluding session, underlining the importance of synergised and coordinated functioning among all stakeholders to enhance operational efficacy and situational awareness.
The second day of the seminar focused on evolving approaches to deterrence in the cyber-enabled cognitive domain, particularly the credibility of response options, training, simulation and capacity building. Discussions also covered digital governance, ethical considerations and legal frameworks required to address emerging security challenges.
The deliberations examined the convergence of cyber capabilities, Artificial Intelligence, information manipulation and psychological influence, and their implications for national security. Participants discussed critical issues such as attribution of hostile activities, strategic signalling, coordinated responses and the development of institutional capabilities to counter threats in the cognitive domain.
The seminar also featured a special address by former Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan (Retd), who is currently the Director of the Vivekananda International Foundation.
The discussions highlighted that cyber-enabled cognitive threats extend beyond conventional technological vulnerabilities, with the potential to influence public perceptions, decision-making processes and institutional trust. Participants stressed the need to strengthen preparedness against attempts to manipulate information and exploit emerging technologies to undermine national interests.
Bringing together representatives from the armed forces, government, academia, technology and media, the seminar provided a platform for cross-sectoral deliberations on emerging challenges in the cognitive domain.
The two-day exercise aimed at strengthening joint and inter-agency understanding, fostering collaboration among defence, scientific and academic communities, and developing effective response frameworks through deterrence, institutional coordination and capacity building.
The seminar underscored the growing importance of integrating technological capabilities, strategic thinking and institutional preparedness to safeguard national security in an increasingly complex cyber-enabled information environment.UNI PWS AAB
