DDA to host World Tourism Day celebrations at Baansera on September 26-27

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will organise a two-day World Tourism Day celebration at Baansera, its bamboo-themed public space along the Yamuna at Sarai Kale Khan, on September 26 and 27, showcasing India’s diverse traditions in art, crafts, cuisine, music and culture.
The event is being organised following the directions of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu to promote the Capital as a sustainable tourism and socio-cultural hub. The celebrations are also aimed at encouraging Delhiites to connect more closely with the Yamuna and experience the riverfront as a public cultural and recreational space.
The two-day programme will feature six specially curated thematic zones, Hunar Gali, Yaadon Ki Gali, Bachpan Ki Dukaan, Chitthi Ghar, Bharat Ke Zaayeke and Masti Ka Adda, offering visitors traditional crafts, regional food, nostalgia-based experiences and participative activities.
Folk and regional music performances, cultural programmes, magic shows and other activities will form part of the celebrations. The event will culminate with a live qawwali performance by the Nizami Brothers on the evening of September 27.
The DDA said Baansera has gradually evolved from a bamboo-themed recreational green space into a venue for cultural, environmental and public events in the Capital.
The venue has hosted three editions of the International Kite Festival, bringing together national and international kite artists and attracting large public participation. It has also hosted Rangratri, a Garba and Dandiya celebration, as well as the Palaash Mahotsav, which combined horticultural displays, cultural activities and environmental awareness.
Baansera also hosted the DDA’s first Green Expo, themed “Beyond Growth: Reimagining Urban Futures”, which brought together government leaders, urban planners, climate experts and industry stakeholders. The event also witnessed the signing of MoUs related to sustainable development and greener public spaces.
The venue has further hosted the ICCR India-International Dance and Music Festival, providing a natural setting for international cultural performances, and the 10th-anniversary edition of Jashn-e-Rekhta, which brought together literature, poetry, language, music and cultural expression along the Yamuna.
Baansera has also been used for International Yoga Day celebrations, including yoga sessions led by the Lieutenant Governor, with a focus on well-being, active lifestyles and healthy ageing.
With its expansive green landscape, bamboo plantation and location along the Yamuna, the DDA said Baansera provides an alternative setting for cultural festivals, music, dance, literature, food, crafts and environmental initiatives.
