Delhi govt welfare initiatives mark PM Modi’s birthday

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) A series of welfare and public-service initiatives, including workers’ facilitation centres, organ and blood donation drives, marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday in the national capital on Thursday as the Delhi government observed the occasion under its month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’.
The campaign, being organised from September 17 to October 17, saw Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurate a ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ and a Gig Workers’ Rest Area in Shalimar Bagh.
Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra and a large number of workers were present at the event, where Gupta interacted with workers and heard their experiences and suggestions.
The Chief Minister said the government remains committed to the "respect, convenience and welfare" of workers who have contributed to Delhi’s development and construction through their labour, hard work and dedication.
She said the objective of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is to make public services more accessible, convenient and closer to citizens.
The Namo Shramik Seva Kendras are aimed at providing workers access to various government schemes and services at a single location, reducing the need for them to visit different government offices, CM Gupta said, adding that these centers will function as a facilitation centre for workers, where necessary assistance related to various government services and worker welfare schemes will be available at a single location.
Workers will receive assistance with registration and renewal, document verification, application status, information about welfare schemes and guidance on services related to claims at the centres.
Speaking about the Gig Workers’ Rest Area, Gupta said the initiative is aimed at making public facilities for gig workers more sensitive and citizen-centric.
Wishing workers on Bhagwan Vishwakarma Jayanti, the Chief Minister said respecting workers, ensuring their welfare and providing them with necessary facilities remained priorities of the Delhi government.
She said the government is developing a system to take healthcare services to workplaces, reducing the need for workers to visit hospitals for routine health check-ups.
In another initiative, Gupta launched an organ donation campaign at an event organised by the Department of Health and Family Welfare at the Delhi Secretariat and herself took a pledge to donate her organs.
Gupta said organ donation reflected the spirit of “Seva Sankalp” and was a noble decision that could save lives.
The initiative seeks to promote organ donation, strengthen transplant services and encourage citizens to pledge their organs. An online portal was also launched through which Delhi residents can register for the organ donation pledge campaign.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister donated blood at a mega blood donation camp organised to mark Modi’s birthday. Delhi BJP president and other party leaders also participated in the camp along with a large number of people.
The Chief Minister also performed a yajna with 108 havan kunds on Thursday morning, praying for Modi’s good health and long life on his birthday.
The series of initiatives formed part of the Delhi government’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, which seeks to promote public service and welfare-oriented activities during the month-long programme.UNI APS AAB
