Delhi to roll out 150 E-buses next month as city expands depots, charging infra

New Delhi, Sep 21 (UNI) Delhi will add 150 new electric buses (e-bus) to its public transport fleet next month, Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said on Monday after reviewing preparations with officials of the Transport Department.
The buses will be deployed as the government works on expanding depot and charging infrastructure to support the growing electric bus fleet in the city.
“The Delhi government is developing bus depots and charging infrastructure in a coordinated manner, with every site closely monitored, so that new electric buses can be deployed without delay,” Singh said.
Delhi currently has 5,088 electric buses operating from 40 depots.
Officials said that charger installation is under way at three additional depots, while five depots with a combined capacity of 768 buses are being developed under the National Electric Bus Programme (NEBP).
The expansion is also being planned under the PM E-Drive scheme. Sixteen depots with a capacity to accommodate 2,800 electric buses are planned under PM E-Drive-1, while another 16 depots, with capacity for 2,710 buses, are covered under PM E-Drive-2.
The buses under these programmes are expected to be delivered in phases over the next two years, the department said in a statement.
The Transport Department is also developing two depots at Daurala and Jhuljhuli, with capacities of 250 and 500 buses, respectively.
The facilities are expected to cater to passengers from rural areas.
To meet the additional requirement for depots and charging stations, the department has sought land from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) at five locations — Tikri Kalan Village (PVC Market), Jaunti Village, Mungeshpur Village, Bakkarwala and Gazipur Mandi, officials said.
They added that space for charging stations has also been sought from the DDA, MCD and DMRC, while land has been requested from the DMRC to expand the capacity of the Rithala depot.
The Directorate of Panchayat has allocated land to the DTC and Transport Department for developing additional depots and charging infrastructure.
