Djokovic match halted twice amid wind at Roland Garros

Paris, May 27 (UNI) Novak Djokovic's first-round encounter against Mackenzie McDonald at the French Open descended into farce on Tuesday, with the match halted twice during the opening set amid player protests and mounting spectators' frustration over windy conditions on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
The Serb, seeded second, was seen engaging in animated discussions with the chair umpire, repeatedly gesturing towards the partially open roof and demanding it be shut to minimise the impact of gusts swirling across the court.
A tournament official later joined the deliberations as Djokovic insisted conditions were "unplayable".
Moments later, play resumed, only for the match to be paused again—this time at the behest of McDonald, who expressed dismay over the inconsistent decision-making regarding the roof. The American, visibly agitated, was seen conversing with the tournament director as jeers and boos echoed around the stadium from impatient fans.
Eventually, the organisers ordered the roof to be closed, though rain was not a factor, citing player safety and unrelenting wind.
Despite the disruptions, Djokovic led by a set and a break at 2-1 in the second. However, his irritation did not subside. After McDonald held serve to stay within touching distance, Djokovic turned toward his box and delivered a visibly angry gesture, underscoring his lingering discontent with the conditions and officiating.
The match is underway as under a now-closed roof.
