Election Commission calls rival Trinamool factions for joint hearing on party name, symbol

Kolkata, Oct 26 (UNI) The Election Commission of India has summoned the rival factions led by Mamata Banerjee and Ritabrata Banerjee for a joint hearing on October 30 to resolve the dispute over the use of the All India Trinamool Congress name and its ‘twin flowers’ symbol.
Both factions have been asked to appear at the Election Commission’s office at 3.30 pm.
In its letter, the Commission mentioned the names of Mamata Banerjee and Ritabrata Banerjee alongside each other and directed both sides to submit all relevant information and documents by Monday, October 26.
According to sources, Ritabrata Banerjee left for Delhi on the night of Lakshmi Puja to prepare the necessary documents ahead of the hearing.
The dispute over the party’s name and symbol has been ongoing since June.
The Commission has held several rounds of discussions with both factions, but no final resolution has been reached.
In the meantime, by-elections were held in Nandigram and Rejinagar.
The Commission allotted separate names and symbols to the Mamata Banerjee and Ritabrata Banerjee factions.
The arrangements made during the by-elections were interim measures and were not intended as a permanent solution.
The latest joint hearing is seen as an attempt to resolve the dispute conclusively.
However, it remains uncertain whether the Commission will reach a final decision before the upcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections.
