Hombale Films to distribute India’s Oscar entry ‘Gondhal’ in international theatres

Mumbai, Oct 9 (UNI) Marathi film "Gondhal", chosen as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Academy Awards, is preparing for an international theatrical release, with Hombale Films coming on board as its overseas distributor.
Written and directed by Santosh Davkhar, "Gondhal" is a Marathi folk thriller. It stars Kishor Kadam, Ishita Deshmukh, Yogesh Sohoni, and Nishad Bhoir in lead roles. The film's music was composed by legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja.
Set in rural Maharashtra, the film explores various aspects of faith, human passion, power, and deceit through traditional nighttime rituals. The film received critical acclaim for its distinctive story, cultural setting, and impressive visual presentation.
The film also won the Best Director Award at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Its international distribution is considered a significant step towards expanding the film's global reach after it was selected as India's official entry for the Oscars 2027.
The production house announced the film's overseas theatrical distribution in a post on the social media platform X. The company said it is excited to bring this powerful story to audiences worldwide. An international release date for the film has not yet been announced.
Hombale Films has made its mark in Indian cinema with films such as the "KGF" franchise, "Kantara," "Salaar," and "Mahavatara Narasimha." The company's upcoming projects include "Salaar: Part 2—Shauryaanga Parva," "Mahavatara Parashurama," "Surya 48," and "Yeto Ka Naay," among others. UNI NST CDS
