Explosion in Iranian Port likely caused by solid missile fuel: Reports

Tehran, Apr 27 (UNI) The explosion in the Iranian port of Shahid Rajaee may have been caused by a solid missile fuel, The New York Times reported on Sunday, citing sources.

An individual with ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps told the newspaper that it was sodium perchlorate, a major ingredient in solid fuel for missiles, that exploded.

On Saturday, a large blast occurred in the port in the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas. Following the explosion, the IRNA news agency reported that it was set off by chemicals stored improperly.

According to the latest data, the death toll from the explosion stood at 14, with around 750 people injured.
