FIR against officer responsible for sacred thread removal

Shivamogga, Apr 18 (UNI) An FIR has been filed against the Common Entrance Test (CET) exam conducting officer of a school in Karnataka after students were allegedly asked to remove their sacred thread (Janeu) before entering the examination hall.
The complaint, filed by Nataraj Bhagavath, accused the officer of hurting religious beliefs and violating the sanctity of Hindu customs. The incident reportedly occurred during the CET examination earlier this week in Adi Chunchanagiri School at Sharavathinagara of Shivamogga district.

Following the complaint, local police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), replacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as part of the ongoing probe into the matter.
Parents and local community leaders have expressed strong displeasure over the alleged incident, calling it an affront to the constitutional right to religious freedom. Protests were reported outside the school premises on Thursday morning, demanding action against those responsible.
Officials from the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) have yet to issue a formal statement on the matter, but it is expected to conduct an internal inquiry to ascertain the facts.
Karnataka Higher Education Minister Dr MC Sudhakar termed the incident as "very unfortunate," noting it occurred in Shivamogga and Bidar. He clarified that no instructions were given to frisk or ask students to remove sacred threads, and such actions were not part of exam protocols.
Emphasising respect for all religions, he assured that the government will not tolerate such incidents and action will be taken. Further investigation is underway. UNI BDN SSP
