For a strong nation, farming and villages should be strengthened: Sinha

Patna, June 9 (UNI) Stressing the need for strengthening farming and villages for the transformation of India, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said that the peasants' role was not only limited to providing food grains, but they were crucial in the nation-building.
Addressing Developed Agriculture Sankalp Abhiyan in Acharya Narendra Dev Agriculture and Technology University, Sinha said on Monday that our entire civilization depends on agriculture. He said that farmers were not just providers of food but were the nation builders. If the villages and farms were strong, then the farmers of India would become self-reliant and prosperous, he maintained.
Sinha said that agriculture is not just a livelihood, it is the soul of Indian culture, faith, and self-reliance.
Realising the strength of farming and the role of peasants in nation building, Bihar government has initiated several measures for farmers' welfare, he said, acting that 76 percent of the population of Bihar depends on agriculture, which is the backbone of the state's economy.
Outlining the encouraging results of the agricultural road maps prepared by the state government, Sinha said that the government has established seed hubs for providing good seeds.
The government was also linking agriculture to enterprise, under which the farmers were being made not only producers but also processors and exporters.
Sinha said that working on the concept of crop diversification and value addition special emphasis has been laid on maize, vegetable, fruit, and medicinal farming.
Under the "Digital Agriculture Mission" the government has started using drones, satellites, and AI technology in the fields, he informed.
The Minister said that given the changes in the weather and climate patterns, the government was promoting climate-friendly agriculture and cultivation of millets and protein-rich grains.
Stressing the need to adopt the latest technology in farming, Sinha said that it will help in doubling the income of the farmers.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the proximity of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar can change the country's economy. The production of maize, wheat, and paddy has doubled in Bihar and the government was focusing on developing Bihar not only as a producer but also as an exporter, he maintained.
Sinha said that despite the large number of marginal farmers in Bihar, positive results are being achieved in the agriculture sector. He said that 2170 scientists, 113 research institutes and 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras are participating in the nationwide campaign to increase productivity by connecting farmers with scientific farming techniques.
