Kochi, May 16 (UNI) In a significant operation, the officials of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) intercepted a major attempt at smuggling foreign currency at Cochin International Airport on the night of May 15, 2025.
Acting on specific intelligence, the Customs team intercepted a lady passenger bound for Dubai by flight SG18. Upon thorough examination of her check-in baggage, the officers recovered 2,00,000 Saudi Riyals (in the denomination of 500 SAR × 400 notes), equivalent to approximately Rs 44.40 lakhs, a release said on Friday.
The foreign currency was ingeniously concealed inside aluminium foil layers hidden within the check-in baggage. Further investigation is underway.
The officials of the Thiruvananthapuram Zone, under the leadership of SK. Rahman, Chief Commissioner, CBIC, took part in the operation.
