Port Louis/New Delhi, July 1 (UNI) Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who is on an official visit to Mauritius, today called on Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, during which they committed to strengthening the strategic partnership in line with the evolving priorities of the government.
According to a post on social media, the discussions also covered preparations for PM Ramgoolam’s forthcoming visit to India.“Shri Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary of India, called on the Hon Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of Mauritius.
“During their meeting, they reaffirmed the deep-rooted and special ties between India and Mauritius, and committed to strengthening the strategic partnership in line with the evolving priorities of the new government.
“Discussions also covered Vision MAHASAGAR as a blueprint for deeper regional cooperation, India’s resolve to further enhance its development partnership, and preparations for PM Ramgoolam’s forthcoming visit to India.”Earlier, Foreign Secretary Misri called on Dhananjay Ramful, Mauritius’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade.Discussions covered ongoing and planned activities under the India-Mauritius Joint Vision for an Enhanced Strategic Partnership and other areas of mutual interest.
During the visit, India donated various counter-narcotics equipment to the Mauritian police, with the aim of strengthening its operational capacity to address drug-related challenges.
The official handover of the equipment was held during a meeting between Mauritius Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dhananjay Ramful, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.The Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius, Anurag Srivastava, was also present.This new equipment will also benefit the future National Drug Control Agency (NADC), which will be responsible for prevention, control and rehabilitation linked to drug use.
Earlier, the Indian Foreign Secretary arrived in Mauritius on an Official Visit.“The visit highlights the regular high-level engagement between India and Mauritius and the importance India attaches to Mauritius as a key partner in our Neighbourhood First, Vision Sagar and MAHASAGAR, Africa Forward policies, and our commitment to the Global South,” said the Indian High Commission in a social media post.
The Foreign Secretary's visit comes days after the phone conversation between PM Modi and PM Ramgoolam on June 24.The two leaders had emphasised the special and unique ties between India and Mauritius, and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further deepen the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between the two countries. They also discussed the ongoing cooperation across a broad range of areas, including development partnership, capacity building, defence, maritime security, digital infrastructure, and people-to-people ties.
Prime Minister Modi had reiterated India’s steadfast commitment to the development priorities of Mauritius in line with Vision MAHASAGAR and India’s Neighbourhood First policy.
Prime Minister had extended an invitation to PM Ramgoolan for an early visit to India.
