Frankfurt-New Delhi Air India flight makes emergency landing at Jaipur amid hijacking scare; all on board found safe and well

Jaipur, Oct 14 (UNI) An Air India AI-2030 Frankfurt-New Delhi flight was forced to make an emergency landing at the Sanganer International Airport in Jaipur on Wednesday morning amid a scare of hijacking or bomb threat.
Panic broke out suddenly in the ATCs at the Ahmedabad, Jaipur and New Delhi airports as the officials there received a panic signal about a hijacking threat from the New Delhi bound international flight around 10:00 am today.
The panic prevailed for almost two hours.
In the meantime all preparations were made as per standard operating procedures (SOPs) for emergency landing at the three airports.
All airport, aviation and security agencies involved in the procedure, including NSG, airport security, air traffic personnel, fire brigade and ambulance were rushed to the airport here to deal with any eventuality.
In relief for officials at all three airports in Jaipur, New Delhi and Ahmedabad, the flight had a safe unscheduled landing at the Jaipur airport shortly after 10:00am.
However, security and aviation agencies swung into precautionary action on their respective tasks as soon as the plane touched down.
All 306 people on board, including 293 passengers and 13 crew members, were reported safe.
Passengers were deboarded, their luggage and other belongings were searched and aviation/airport authorities held one-on-one talks with both pilots about the situation and reason for the emergency landing.
Initial reports suggested that the pilot had inadvertently pressed the panic button (code 7500) that indicated an imminent hijack threat (or a bomb blast).
However, later during interaction of the two pilots with airport authorities, the pilots refuted reports of pressing the panic button for raising an alert for hijacking or bomb threat.
Now, the authorities are probing whether some technical snag caused the panic signals for the ATCs at airports along the flight route or some other abnormal situation had emerged.
No official statement in respect of the happenings was issued so far.
