Haryana: Gurugram Police cracks down on public drinking & substance abuse

Panchkula, Oct 1 (UNI) A spokesman of the Haryana Police said here today that Gurugram Police has taken 105 persons into custody for allegedly consuming alcohol at public places and initiated preventive action against them under the law.
The spokesman said the special checking drive was conducted across the West Police Zone on September 29, under the directions of Y.V.R. Shashi Shekhar, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, Gurugram, to tighten crime control and security arrangements. Police teams carried out effective checking at parks, parking areas, roadside locations and other open public places, where 105 persons were found drinking alcohol, he said.
As their activities were disturbing peace and security at public places, all 105 persons were detained under Section 172(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and preventive action was taken against them as per the law, the spokesman added.
He said Gurugram Police remains committed to maintaining peace, security and law and order across the district. Appropriate legal action will be taken against persons involved in hooliganism, substance abuse and activities that disturb public order at public places, and such checking drives will continue in the future, he warned.
The Haryana Police spokesman appealed to citizens to respect the law and act responsibly. He urged the public not to turn public places into venues for drinking or substance abuse, reminding them that these spaces are meant for everyone. UNI KK SS
