Chandigarh, June 17 (UNI) Taking up the demands of the protesting students of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Hisar, Jananayak Janata Party’s (JJP) Youth State President Digvijay Singh Chautala on Tuesday met Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya.
Chautala, along with HAU students, reached the Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh and submitted a memorandum of their demands to the Governor.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Digvijay held the university administration responsible for 'torture' of the innocent students of HAU, and the entire sequence of events was shared with the Governor.
He stated that merely filing an FIR (first information report) by the police is not enough in such a shameful incident while demanding for removal for the Vice-Chancellor of HAU and strict action against all those responsible for it.
Chautala asserted that such a serious matter cannot be brushed under the carpet by filing an FIR against just a few individuals, especially when multiple security personnel carried out a life-threatening assault on students under the VC’s directives.
He reiterated that as per the students’ demand, the guilty VC should be dismissed, and firm action must follow against all culprits.
He added that the HAU students went to the VC’s office merely to demand their rightful dues,
but instead, the university administration acted with authoritarianism and ordered a violent assault on them.
Rather than hearing the youth out, they were mistreated. Moreover, a similar case of student mistreatment has come to light at the HAU centre in Bawal.
He mentioned that students who boycotted the exams in solidarity with the protest, were allegedly manhandled
by the police and forcibly taken to examination centres.
Male police officers were sent into the girls’ hostel and action should be taken in this regard as well.
After meeting with the Governor, Chautala said he is hopeful that a proper investigation will be carried out and decisive action will be taken in this serious matter involving youths.
He also claimed that the university administration was openly involved in the incident. The students who accompanied him to meet the Governor, also pleaded for justice and shared that they are still being harassed within the university, including being targeted in hostels.
They demanded that instead of suppressing students, action should be taken against the responsible officials and staff members.
