Haryana mobilises NGOs to prevent treatment gaps among HIV patients, strengthen patient support

Panchkula, Oct 22 (UNI) In a move to strengthen continuity of treatment and support for people living with HIV, the Haryana State AIDS Control Society (HSACS) has invited applications from registered non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community-based organisations (CBOs) to deliver care and support services across 13 districts of the state.
The initiative, being implemented under the National AIDS and STD Control Programme through a domestic budget grant, aims to improve outreach, reconnect patients who have discontinued treatment with healthcare services and ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive continued medical and social support.
Under the proposed arrangement, the state has been divided into two clusters. The Faridabad cluster will cover Faridabad, Mahendragarh, Gurugram, Nuh, Rewari and Palwal, while the Kurukshetra cluster will include Kurukshetra, Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Kaithal and Sonipat.
The selected organisations will be responsible for tracking patients who have interrupted treatment, following newly identified HIV-positive patients until their first viral load test, and ensuring that patients due for subsequent tests are followed up. They will also counsel patients with high viral loads to support treatment adherence and continuity of care.
Special attention will be given to HIV-positive pregnant women and their babies, alongside efforts to connect eligible patients with government social security schemes. The initiative is intended to strengthen patient follow-up and outreach to address gaps in treatment and access to support services.
